The Ponte di Tiberio connects the end of Corso Augusto (Rimini’s old main road) with the village of San Giuliano. Emperor Augustus commissioned the bridge that was erected over the Marecchia River, but the actual construction took place under his successor, Tiberius. It’s an impressive work of architecture and it’s one of the best-preserved bridges from the Roman period. It is a fine example of the technical expertise of the Romans who built the bridge without separating the foundations of the individual pillars thus creating a unique structure that is still being used today.
