The Piazza Tre Martiri developed from the former Piazza Giulio Cesare and Piazza delle Erbe and its name commemorates three young men who were executed here. The statue is of Julius Caesar and given to the town in 1933. Here also is the Ara Romana, a Renaissance stone in memory of Caesar’s speech to his soldiers before the conquest of Rome. While undergoing resurfacing work in recent years, remains of a former city was discovered here.
