Palazzo della Consulta

The Palazzo della Consulta was built in 1732, designed by Ferdinando Fuga, and became the seat of the Ecclesiastic Court of the Consulta. It has an imposing façade with its ashlars on the frames of the windows. The tympani was designed in the style of Michelangelo’s work, also statues representing the Justice and Religion created by Giovanni Battista Maini in the late Baroque style. During the Napoleon period the building housed the Prefecture and then became seat of the government of Mazzini, Armellini and Saffi. It became the residence of the Crown Princes Umberto and Margherita of Savoia.
