There is sometimes a bit of confusion among visitors regarding the Palazzo del Magnifico. In this case, il Magnifico (or the Magnificent) was not Lorenzo de’ Medici as those who are a little shaky on Siena’s history generally believe. The il Magnifico refers to Pandolfo Petrucci, who was as dissimilar to Lorenzo as anyone could be. This wonderful palace dates from the 16th Century and is a model of the Renaissance, and is definitely worth a visit.
