Palazzo Carignano was commissioned in 1679 by Prince Philibert Amadeus. It was built by Guarino Guarini and Charles Albert and Victor Emmanuel II were born there. The palace has a striking Baroque façade in two orders; Doric on the upper, and Corinthian on the lower. Inside is a large hall, used for the first Italian Parliament, and wide staircases with double flights lead to the first floor. Decoration inside is the work of Baroncelli. In the latter half of the 19th Century a new wing was added by Ferri.
