The Oratory of San Bernardino can be located next to the church of San Francesco. It was erected during the 15th Century at the spot where Saint Bernardine often came to preach. The lower chapel, built in the 17th Century has Sienese artists to thank for the decoration but more impressive still is the upper chapel which has a wood and stucco ceiling and walls by Ventura Turapilli. These are enlivened by beautiful frescoes by Girolamo del Pacchia, Beccafumi and Sodoma, and the altar has a wonderful ‘Madonna with Child’ by Sano di Pietro.
