The National Museum is sited in the cloisters of an ex-Benedictine Monastery among the immense complex of San Vitale. The museum has important collections of minor works of art among which are funeral steles and epigraphs. There is also a rich collection of archaeological fragments, textiles from Coptic to Renaissance. There is an excellent section on ivories, a magnificent collection of icons, coins, medals and a fascinating set of ancient weapons. It also houses the 14th Century cycle of frescoes of Santa Chiara that decorated the church of the Poor Clare Sisters in Ravenna, today the Rasi Theatre.
