The National Gallery of Ancient Art is housed in the Palazzo Barberini, which was built for Barberini Pope Urban VIII in the 17th Century. Here is the popular fresco, ‘Triumph of the Divine Providence’ by Pietro da Cortona. The Italian state bought the property in 1949 in order to display more than 1500 paintings and 2000 items of art decoration – including some furniture. Visitors can see works by Raphael, Caravaggio, Canaletto, Vanvitelli, Pietro da Cortona, Guercino, Domenichino, Titian, Tintoretto and others.
