This museum is housed in what was formerly the convent of St Francis. It is the first museum dedicated to oil in Europe, dealing with olive trees, the symbol of the olive as peace and the general history of oil. Part of the exhibition display is given over to archaeological finds associated with oil and olives, with some of these finds dating back to the Phoenicians in the 7th Century BC. There is also a collection of ointment holders and ancient decorative motifs which have been inspired by oil.
