The Museo del Mare was founded in 1888 by the fishing society who wanted to showcase their heritage. The museum opened in 1904 and has been enlarged and re-located several times over the years. Arranged over three levels, the ground floor has models of old and medieval boats and panels depicting the history of the nautical instruments and crafts. There are two rooms dedicated to Josef Ressel, the first to experiment with propellers, and Guglielmo Marconi, with technical radio equipment on display which was discovered on board the ship Elettra.
