The Museo Archeologico Prenestino is housed in the Palazzo Colonna-Barberini which was built in the 17th Century. It was constructed on the former circular temple where once stood a statue of the goddess Palestrina. The star attraction is the 2nd Century B.C. Nile mosaic that has come from the most sacred part of the temple, upon which the cathedral now stands. It is a fantastically detailed depiction of the Nile in flood from Ethiopia to Alexandria and shows warriors hunting exotic animals, people dining and the goddess preaching.
