Mount Altissimo, which is 2078 m above sea level, can be reached on foot. There is a tarmac road which begins at Nago and winds 15k through olive groves, thickets and meadows until it reaches Malga Zures. On the mountain peak, in a stunning setting, sits the Damiano Chiesa refuge. This is an interesting route which is sprinkled with grottos, bunkers, and trenches remaining from World War I as well as numerous local flora. The views from here are breathtaking.
