The Mausoleum of Augustus monument, whose construction started in 28 BC by Augustus, is circular with a diameter of around 87 metres. Today only the lower part of the complex remains that was built in a very elaborate way and is a pleasure to view. Inside the perimeter walls, there are some concentric walls enclosing large surfaces supporting the upper part of the building. In the centre there was a cylinder shaped column supporting the statue of the emperor and it had contained a cell that should have housed the remains of Augustus.
