Lago di Tenno is situated on the south-western slopes of Monte Misone close to the steep descent towards Lake Garda. Even though this area has been inhabited since prehistoric times, the lake was only formed during the 14th Century. Because this is a barrier lake the water level varies considerably - up to around fifty feet. This deep water gives a beautiful turquoise appearance. It is lacking in plant life and the area is not rich in fish but the variation in depth does mean the waters rarely freeze over.
