Close to Marmore, the lovely Piediluco Lake - second largest in Umbria - meanders through the wooded hills. On one of these hills sits the ancient fortress of Albornoz. There are a few beaches here but the water is considered cold and the undercurrents dangerous. In recent times, the lake has become the centre of sport rowing in Italy and international competitions are held here. A medieval hamlet can be found on the lake’s shores – the small resort of Piediluco – which is named after a Roman grove of trees (lucus). Boat rides can be taken on the lake.
