Giulio Ulisse Arata, a Piacenza architect, built the Palazzo della Provincia between 1925 and 1928. It is an example of ‘New Romantic’ architecture with heavy stylistic Byzantine features. In the hanging gardens close to the crypt, a neo-gothic tower was erected at the end of the 19th Century. The entrance arch to the terrace is made from the marble dial of the clock that was on the front of the churches of San Sebastiano and San Marco from which it was removed in 1783.
