A most beautiful fountain can be seen in the Mercato square in the heart of Spoleto. This is the Fonte di Piazza and it was built by the will of the Comune between 1746 and 1748, its designer being the Roman architect, Costantino Fiaschetti. Fiaschetti incorporated the four coats of arms and a plaque made in honour of Pope Urban VIII which was once decorating another fountain designed and built by Carlo Maderno in 1626.
