Pietro Bernini built the Fontana della Barcaccia at the base of the flight of steps of Trinità dei Monti. This magnificent fountain of 1629, was commissioned by Pope Urban VII Barberini. It was built in memory of the flooding of the Tiber, whose waters reached the foot of the Pincio. It is in the shape of a ship with a prow and stern, bearing the ornamental plate of Pope Urban VIII and, on both sides, two jugs from which water oozes out, falling into the tank underneath.
