The dome and tower of Siena’s Duomo can be seen for miles around and is the pride of the city. The richly decorated façade, with its white and black marble, comprises Gothic and Romanesque styles. Inside are sculptures by Michelangelo, and the pulpit by Nicola Pisano is said to be one of the greatest in Tuscany. There is a fabulous fresco cycle by Pintoricchio and the Pecci tomb by Donatello is superb. Of note is the interior pavement which is decorated with 56 stone panels executed by the best artists of their time and took 200 years in the making.
