The Duomo of Terni is situated in the city centre, close to the public gardens. It stands on a site of earlier religious structures, the first known being of the 6th Century. The present cathedral was reconstructed in 1653, though still retains some Romanesque influences. The main door has wonderful relief carvings of birds and animals. The interior has a fine altar by Minelli, perhaps the most important 18th Century work of art. The 11th Century crypt has been restored and is worth a visit.
