The remains of a Roman house were discovered in Rimini when a tree was uprooted. The hidden building is thought to be from the 2nd Century AD. The house is known as the Domus del Chirurgo (the Domus of the Surgeon) and had probably burned down. One of the rooms has a polychrome mosaic showing Orpheus in the centre as well as decorated plaster, oil lamps, decorative statuettes, bronze decorations, and coins. It also has the largest collection of medical instruments from the Roman world plus mortars, scales, measures and vases for the preparation and conservation of medicines.
