Sciacca’s Cortile Chiodi was originally the ancient entrance of the Old Castle. This castle, now only ruins, is thought to have been the home of Juliet, daughter of Roger, in 1141. It was enlarged in 1520, becoming the residence of the Perollo family. It was a walled fortress with three gates. Near the secret south-west gate of San Pietro was a fortified bastion with crenellated quadrangular towers. There is a marble coat of arms of the Perollo family over the entrance. The castle was finally destroyed by the count Luna.
