The Convent of the Alcantarines, along with the complex of San Pasquale church, has been the home of the National Archaeological Museum of Taranto since 1887. It can be found on the northern side of the Villa Garibaldi, which is in the Piazza Archita in the middle of the new town. The Alcantarine friars were given permission to build the convent in 1736 and it was their home until early 1861. Inside, and not to be missed, are the gold and silver jewels found in Taranto which are displayed under the name Ori di Taranto or the Golds of Taranto.
