The Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie is a small complex dating to around 1540. It includes the most ancient church and is the place where Father Pio lived from the 4th September 1916 until he died in September 1968. This small complex consists of two churches - the smallest was consecrated in 1692 and has a magnificent icon of the Madonna delle Grazie which has been well preserved. Because of the increase in pilgrims, a larger church was constructed dedicated to Santa Maria delle Grazie and built next to the ancient church.
