Classe archaeological zone
Via Marabina, Ravenna 48100 - Italy

Map

The Classe archaeological zone is the basin that was part of the Port of Classe. It was the greatest Roman naval base in the Adriatic and the Eastern Mediterranean, with its two hundred and fifty ships and ten thousand classiari (who manned the ships). Apart from the basin you can see the remains of buildings and a road paved with trachyte. To reach the zone from the centre of Ravenna travel to Classe or Rimini, which is about 5km, turn left after the bridge on the Fiumi Uniti to Lido di Dante; the entrance is a few metres farther on.
