Not to be confused with the Circus Maximus, the Circus of Maxentius was built with bricks and turf and is part of one of the most important monumental complexes of the city because of its superb condition even today. At 513 metres long and 90 metres wide it could hold up to 10,000 spectators. The middle area was decorated with statues and the Domitian obelisk and placed in the Piazza Navona. Also there was a gallery that linked the Imperial Palace to the Imperial stage on the left side of the terraces.
