The Church of Trinità dei Monti was commissioned by Charles VIII King of France after a request by the founder of the Miniti order, who became Saint Francis di Paola. The work was slow because of the damage the building suffered during the sack of Rome in 1527, the Temple was consecrated by Pope Sixtus V in 1586, and then double-entrance stairs were added by Domenico Fontana in 1587. However the building was severely damaged by the first French occupation in 1799 and restored in 1816. Outside stand two high bell towers that add to the decoration of the façade.
