The Church of St. Maria dell’Itria dominates the Noceto square in Sciacca. This rather austere structure, which was originally of the 14th Century, was once annexed to the Badia Grande delle Benedettine. The church was rebuilt during the 18th Century by Luciano Gambino over the earlier building. The beautiful portal is much admired with its carved floral decoration, standing out from the flat surface of the façade. The inside has a nave which is beautifully decorated with pure gold as well as a number of wooden statues and a fine Baroque organ.
