The church of S. Maria Lama is sited in the heart of the old town and holds the only unique painting testimonies dating to the longobard period in Salerno. It was built on two levels, although only the lower floor originally existed. Today it is enclosed in the actual crypt and was transformed in the 13th Century. A painting of Magdalene and Christ on the cross dating to the end of the 15th Century, is portrayed on the first columns on the right as you enter the church.
