The Church of San Pietro was commissioned by Eudossia, wife of the Emperor Valentinianus III, as a place to keep the chains of Saint Peter found in Jerusalem. These chains are in the left aisle in an urn. The building’s façade has a 5-arch porch. The interior has a double colonnade; on the left is the grave of the brothers Pollaiolo and in the right aisle stands the mausoleum of Pope Julius II. There’s a statue of Moses sitting on the throne by Michelangelo, in the middle of the grave. The cloister, with its beautiful Ionic columns, is worth visiting.
