The Church of San Gregorio is a small church sited in the heart of the old town of Salerno and dates back to ancient times, though the actual period is not known. A stone that formerly stood in the church dates the foundations to 1172 and to Roberto Guarna, a brother of Archbishop Romualdo II, and this stone is now kept in the Diocesan Museum of Salerno. After a Papal visit in 1692 the building was classified as a Basilican Style with three aisles.
