Sesto Calende, Lake Maggiore 21018 - Italy

Map

The Church of San Donato in Sesto Calende was built originally in the 9th Century. It was remodelled during the 11th and 12th centuries but still has the small northern apse of the original structure. Inside, there are some 15th and 16th Century frescoes of note. Near the entrance is the chapel of Santa Caterina, which contains frescoes depicting her life. The church’s style is Romanesque and has a typical crypt formed by columns that support the arches of the cross-shaped vault.
