It is believed that the church of Carmine dates from between 230 and 240 AD., a time of persecution for Christians in Sorrento. It was rebuilt towards the end of the 16th Century and now has a Baroque style. This is a single nave church with an image of the Madonna which is a duplicate of the ‘Vergine Bruna’ of Naples. There are plenty of lovely paintings here from the 17th and 18th centuries as well as two fine inlaid wood reliquaries which date back to 1600.
