Chiesa Madre Santa Maria della Vittoria
Piazza Vittoria, San Vito dei Normanni, Brindisi 72019 - Italy

Map
Chiesa Madre Santa Maria della Vittoria (Saint Mary of the Victory) was originally built in 1571. Today, the church has a Baroque façade owing to restoration work in the 18th Century but has kept the former outer cornice and the single-lancet windows of the transept. Inside there is a nave with barrel vault and two aisles. There is an icon here of the Mother of God Nicopeia, the generator of Victories, consecrated on 25 March 1995. In December 1998, His Holiness John Paul II, proclaimed the Church of Saint Mary of the Victory a Papal Basilica.
