Salò’s Cathedral is situated in a pretty piazza. It was erected over the site of a pagan temple which later became S. Maria Parish Church in the mid 15th Century. It has a beautiful façade and portal and the interior has decorations by Giovan Battista Trotti. The fine artworks and frescoes include work by Palma di Giovane and Antonio Vassilacchi, Paolo Veneziano, Romanini, Zenon Veronese, Moretto, Andrea Celesti, G. Andrea Bertanza, and Angelo Landi. The antique wooden crucifix is the work of Giovanni Teutonico. In the summer classical music concerts are held in the square in front of the Cathedral.
