The Cattedrale di San Giusto, built in 1399, has become a symbol of the city of Trieste and is just a 20-minute walk from the Piazza dell’Unita d’Italia. It became the building it is today after two pre-existing basilicas were merged, forming a vast central nave. The bell tower was added in 1337 the same time as the beautiful sandstone façade. The magnificent interior has gorgeous Byzantine mosaics and a 13th Century chapel completely enclosed by rich Baroque railing. The chapel in the right nave is dedicated to San Giusto, and the Bourbons of Spain are buried in the crypt.
