The Cathedral of S.Giovanni, built on the ruins of three medieval churches, is the only Renaissance church in Turin. An octagonal dome tops the church, illuminating the interior. It was designed with a nave and two aisles with transept. It was Guarino Guarini in the 17th Century who built the Cupola of the Holy Shroud, which took the place of the original apse, creating a bridge between the church and Royal Palace. The ‘Last Supper’, donated by King Charles Albert and painted by Gagna, dominates the central door. And at the side of the Cathedral rises an 18th Century campanile.
