Cathedral
Corso Italia, Sorrento 80062 - Italy

Map

The cathedral of Sorrento was built in the 15th Century in a Romanesque style. The baptistery, where Torquato Tasso was christened was restored in 1933. Inside the cathedral there are many fine works of art including those from the 18th Century Neapolitan School. There is a marble archiepiscopal throne which dates to the year 1573 and the ceiling has beautiful paintings by Oronzo Malinconico and Giacomo del Po. Note also the 20th Century inlaid choir by local craftsmen and the inlaid Stations of the Cross by Giovanni Patirzo.
