The Renaissance style Cathedral of St John the Baptist was built in the 15th Century and is the main church of Turin. The cathedral, with a façade of white marble has three aisles laid out like a Roman Cross. The chapel is home to the medieval Turin Shroud, the linen believed to be the image left by Jesus after being taken down from the cross, though only a replica can be viewed. Free tours are available through underground passages to view artefacts relating to the shroud.
