Like the other fortresses in this area, the medieval castle of Soiano del Lago was built as a means of defence against the Hungarian invasions. It was also used as a meeting place for the heads of important families in Chizzoline and Soiano. A further gate was later constructed to close off the castle in order to counter the much-feared Savoy army. Today the manor has again become the property of the Commune of Soiano.
