The castle was dedicated to Valentina Balbiano di Chieri, a presidential wife, and in 1630 became the home of Christine of France. The Hall of Honour, the Rose Room, the Valentino, Flower, Hunting and Feast Rooms are all richly decorated first floor apartments. Other noteworthy features include the colonnaded entrance, the terraces and the side pavilions. One story goes that the lady of the castle had a novel way of getting rid of her lovers – through the trapdoors into the dungeons.
