The Carsiana Botanical Gardens opened in 1964 and are set between the two small villages of Gabrovizza and Sgonico, about 18 Kilometres from the city. This is not your typical botanical garden; you won’t find exotic flowers and plants but a reproduction of a natural karstic environment that can be seen all around the city. You can see a doline (a characteristic depression in the shape of a funnel), forestry and their karstic undergrowth, a pond, a natural well and some of the most important species of flora.
