The thermal baths were started by Carcalla in 217 A.D. and completed by Emperors, Heliogabalus and Alexander Severus. In the 6th Century, after the siege of the Goths, the water which was carried to the baths from the Antonius aqueduct was cut off rendering them unusable. The building was separated into various rooms and terraces and could contain around 1,600 people. These people would have enjoyed facilities such as the tepidarium, the frigidarium, the calidarium, the basilica and gymnasiums as well as treatments involving oils and sand.
