The Botanical Gardens of Siena were founded by Biagio Bartalini in 1784. They can be located inside the southern walls of the city near to the Piazza Sant’Agostino, and cover an area of around 2 hectares. There are 3 main areas of the gardens: one contains greenhouses, tropical and aquatic plants; another displays exotic varieties and plants typically found in the Tuscany region. The final section is given over to succulents, cacti, and fruit trees.
