The Basilica of San Domenico was built in the 13th Century. It would be a more pleasant place to visit were it not for the invasive restorations that took place in the middle of the last century. Fortunately the original copy of the process of the canonisation of Santa Caterina was preserved for future generations. A brick built church that dominates the Piazza San Domenico and has fantastic views of the cathedral and the Mangia Tower. Enlarged in the 14th Century and completed by 1465, it was however restored after a fire and modified in the 18th Century.
