The Basilica of S. Agata Maggiore was founded around the end of the 5th Century and can be found at the centre of town. It has undergone many renovations over the centuries. The interior has a trussed roof, a nave with two aisles and contains Corinthian capitals from the 6th Century. There is also an ancient sarcophagus that holds the ashes of San Giorgio Martire and that of Archbishop Agnellus and above the altar is a painting representing Sant’Agata by Luca Longhi.
