The temple’s first stone was laid by Duke Vittorio Amedeo II in 1717 and the building was completed in 1731. The 131 steps, winding up a spiral stairway, allows the visitor to climb the dome which offers a wonderful close-up view of the Juvarra bell tower, an almost 360 degree panoramic view of the city and of the Piemontese mountains. The Grande Torino museum holds a collection of items, housed in two rooms, relating to a national team whose plane crashed into the side of the hill in 1949.
