The Barenicolo Grassland is situated directly behind the seaside resort of Marina Romea. It is dedicated to the naturalist Pietro Zangheri and is a grass land swamped by salt water from the tide ways at high tide and hosts flora and fauna typical of shallow marshlands. The dunes to the south of the River Lamone comprise a natural and fascinating area. The present Lamone outlet dates from the 1960s but in the past centuries it has moved considerably both naturally and because of mans’ intervention. The state owned pinewood is recent and was planted between 1910 and 1935.
