The Argentina Theatre is one of the best known theatres of the capital. The building is situated opposite the large archaeological site from which it owes its name. It was built in 1732 and then renovated on a number of occasions during the 19th Century, notably in the 30s and the 70s when it became the seat of the Rome Theatre. Traditionally, the theatre has the most important prose work bill of the theatre season.
