The Arco di Riccardo is in the heart of old Triesta between narrow quiet streets and not too far from the central Piazza dell’Unita d’Italia. It is believed to be a monument dating back to 33 BC and is the only gate in the city walls to survive. However, another hypothesis is that the monument standing at 7 metres high and 5 meters long could in fact be an entrance to a former sanctuary. The historical details aren’t clear, but it is definitely worth a visit.
